In a quiet, uncharted corner of the Indian Himalayan Region, a story has lived on through whispers—The Tale of Baunmich and The Mystical Place, Hurba. Set in the Sangla Valley of Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, the Baunmich, as translated from Kinnauri, means the ‘dwarf people’. Yeshi, a Buddhist monk, who is also a keeper of ancient legends passed down through generations, shares his take on this tale. This story attempts to uncover and then piece together fragments of dwarven mythology that lingers on in the memories of mountain folk that share this ethereal landscape.

Hurba, a place shrouded in mystery, is said to have existed long before the more recent settlement of Sangla. According to Yeshi, Hurba was once a thriving town. However, it met a tragic end leaving its ruins steeped in myths and secrecy where to this day, whispers of paranormal activities persist.

Guided by Yeshi and his father, Dorje, the film delves into stories passed down through generations. It explores clues etched into rocks, hinting at a lost world.

But the questions remain: are these tales’ mere myths, or do they hold truths of a time bygone? Can this folklore take us on a journey that connects reality with the supernatural? Who were the Baunmich, the mystical dwarf society said to possess ancient wisdom? What secrets lie hidden in Hurbathat are yet to be revealed?
